There weren’t a lot of surprises in the hot-off-the-press 2010 Forbes Travel Guide Four and Five Star Awards. The world’s top hotels made the cut and Hong Kong’s stellar digs were among them.

Chart toppers Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Mandarin Oriental, The Four Seasons and The Peninsula held onto their five star awards this year, in a continual battle to lay claim to Hong Kong’s best harborview, or host of the most Michelin-starred restaurants. Or both.

Conrad Hong Kong, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, InterContinental Hong Kong, Island Shangri-La and Kowloon Shangri-la also kept their four star status.

Our close neighbor Macau, scored two five star awards from the Forbes Travel Guide with Wynn Macau and Altira Macau. While four star awardees included Four Seasons Hotel Macau, Grand Lapa Hotel Macau (previously Mandarin Oriental Macau), MGM Grand Macau and Sands Macau.

The Forbes Travel Guide, formerly Mobil Travel Guide, has been anointing hotel nobility with star ratings since 1958.
