A family-friendly alternative location for laser show and National Day fireworks

A harborview room at the Salisbury YMCA will keep hyper kids and tired adults happy any day, but especially on National Day

To get away from the hordes of people in bars, clubs, the harborfront, and just about every last bit of public space available in Hong Kong during the National Day fireworks, try booking a hotel room for a gathering of your friends.

We like the Salisbury YMCA for an occasion like this because of two reasons:

1. It is one of Hong Kong’s best value-for-money hotels. It's just down the road from The Peninsula but it has the same jaw-dropping views as its neighbor at less than half the price. Granted, The Salisbury won’t pick you up from the airport in a Rolls Royce, but the rooms are comfortable and conveniently located next to the Star Ferry pier. The harborview rooms bring you close to this week's National Day fireworks display, as well as Hong Kong’s “Symphony of Lights” show on any other night.

2. A night at the Salisbury is also a day's activity for a bunch of hyper kids. The hotel is well-equipped, with two swimming pools, an indoor climbing wall and squash courts, as well as a sauna and jacuzzi for parents to escape to.
