Steve Wynn unveiled Encore in Macau yesterday, a boutique hotel extension of Wynn Macao. The US$600 million project is the ony major one to open in Macau this year amid government restrictions on growth in the overheated gaming industry.

The 414-suite and four-villa hotel is aimed at high end tourists and gamblers. With only two dozen new tables, Encore is "about non-casino stuff. There's enough gambling here," says Wynn.

Wynn's Macau casino earns twice as much as its sister operations in Las Vegas, prompting the casino mogul to say, "we are a Chinese company." Further plans for expansion in Macau are in the works -- a Wynn casino resort may open as soon as 2013, on 51 acres of the Cotai Strip.
