International Women's Day: Foot binding exhibit and talk

Dr David Ko Chi-sheng of Taiwan's Foot-binding Culture Museum is showing his collection of silk stockings, shoes, and foot-binding paraphernalia dating from the Ming Dynasty. Ko estimates that each pair is worth in excess of HK$11,350. The exhibit in Hong Kong includes a pair that is just 7cm long -- possibly the smallest in existence.
On March 12, the Royal Asiatic Society will present a talk on foot binding by Dr Shirley See Yan-ma titled "Foot-binding: A Jungian Engagement with Chinese Culture and Psychology" as part of the Man Hong Kong Literary Festival.
Ironically, a high-heels race will be held this Sunday, March 7 also to celebrate International Women's Day at Hollywood Plaza and of course, promotional prices for the ladies at the mall's women's shoes stores.
