Gadgets approved by a girly-girl

My obsession with all things small and shiny started at an early age. It's a good thing my Mom refused me a BeDazzler when I was kid or I would have coated everything in the house with rhinestones.

Although I left my childhood, I've kept my childhood predilection for cute, shiny things. But the things I choose to buy now have to be useful to my adult life. Thus, I've become addicted to the DG Lifestyle Store at the IFC, where I can find all kinds of adorable gadgets for girls.

It was the glistening Tiara Eardrops by Elecom (HK$299) that first got me. I was drawn to the hot-pink crystal-encrusted heart-shaped earphones like a fat kid to cake -- they prove there is no item too small for cute-ification.

But then Swarovski one-upped them with their 'Naughty Raymond' robot USB (HK$1530). Sparkling with white and black crystals, the USB has a 2GB capacity, but it was that mischievous facial expression that got me hooked.

Although I have finally outgrown dotting my 'i's with hearts, I still fell in love with a heart-shaped mouse and USB stick set from Swiss designer Pat-Says-Now (HK$238).

This optical mouse works with both Mac and PC while the USB stick holds 1GB of data. Still, I didn't think I needed another mouse -- until I held it in my hand and felt the smooth velvet coating. My other hand reached for my credit card. 

My latest find at the DG Lifestyle Store is the neoprene Macbook sleeve (pictured) featuring the Peak Tram.

The designs are by Lorette E. Roberts, who is well-known for her illustrated children’s books featuring Hong Kong. Her sketches capture a bit of Hong Kong nostalgia to decorate the sturdy sleeves (available for 13.3”, 15.4” and 17” Macbooks, HK$318-338).

Totally eye-catching stuff that is also useful. Perfect.
