ECOLS

Welcome to ECOLS, where one man's trash is another man's treasure. Who would have thought that a used seatbelt would make for a rakish necktie? Or that old vinyl could become jewelry?

ECOLS features eco-design at its best in an avant-garde setting. An Escher-esque staircase dominates the store and displays gorgeous, planet-saving products. Store-owners Ronald Lo and Phoebe Yuen have scoured the globe to find eco furniture, lighting, accessories, and other knick-knacks. Not only are these products earth-friendly but they've also passed ECOLS' creativity and stylishness litmus test. Check out US-label Ecoist who makes retro handbags from discarded candy wrappers or soda can pull-tabs.

When Lo and Yuen aren't busy saving the environment one product at a time, they support the local art scene by exhibiting edgy green art within the ECOLS. Ask to go upstairs to take a peek at their display of a "future home" where you can learn how to green your living space.
