Latest Hong Kong YouTube sensation: RugbyAsia Channel

Somebody's got to do it: Webcasts on rugby in Asia, plus some funny skits

The recently launched RugbyAsia Channel does videos on the local Hong Kong rugby scene as well as the rest of Asia. Semi Iafeta, a New Zealander who has lived in Hong Kong for the past seven years, started the Facebook group and YouTube channel to promote local rugby, and just have some fun with his rugby mates. Like, make a Hong Kong rugby-themed music video parody of a parody.

The hip hop video "I'm on a tram" is a Hong Kongified version of Lonely Island's "I'm on a boat" and features Hong Kong Sevens team winger Tom McQueen and his buddies rapping about getting our two Hong Kong bucks ready so we can go ride a tram as they travel around Central mooning onlookers and generally entertaining the working public.

"I'm surprised. I didnt really expect the video to have the following it does considering our budget is zero. I just had a microphone and a camera," says Iafeta. He won't be quitting his day job -- as a kindergarten teacher -- anytime soon despite the channel's popularity, unless some sports channel buys into the concept.

RugbyAsia Channel also does some rather more serious rugby fandom stuff, such as their latest interview with legendary England Sevens International, Newcastle Falcons Premiership and now Kowloon player and coach Joe Shaw, below.

After traveling around the world on a fistful of dollars, Zoe returns to Hong Kong, where she grew up, to discover and write about all the inspiring stuff that happens here on a daily basis.
