The name Russian Red comes from the color of a lipstick that Hernández herself usually wears.
Get ready for the quirky beautiful voice of Lourdes Hernández as she channels the folk vocalisings of America via Madrid, in the endearing one-woman project that is Russian Red.
The singer-songwriter with the voice that stretches and bends lyrics like American singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom was the indie phenomenon in Spain in 2008 and 2009 and has become one of their biggest artists in the past years, despite singing in English.
Tracks you need to know:
The delicate opener from her debut album "I Love Your Glasses" released in 2008, is one of her best known tracks racking up over 2 million hits on YouTube: Cigarettes.
Title song from her second album Fuerteventura, is a meandering folksy number that highlights Lourdes' quirky and gorgeous voice.
I hate you but I love you is a a wistful ballad also from "Fuerteventura" while straightforward is carefully crafted and has a lovely melody that will have your feet tapping away.
