The Hurley Surf Cup 2009: Surfing in Hong Kong is awesome, dude
The Hurley Surf Cup 2009 is this Sunday and the Hong Kong Observatory has predicted temperatures of 14 to 20 degrees celsius for the day with moderate to strong winds. That's cable-knit sweater climes for us land-dwellers, and not bad conditions for surfer dudes.
Held at Tai Long Wan, the Hurley Surf Cup recreates as much of the big US surf championships as possible in this little island city of ours, with a generator to power up loudspeakers for music and a barbecue. It takes an hour to walk to (cars are not allowed) and no amenities (ie. no toilets) are available, but surfers and their groupies flock there regardless.
Watch out for our series of posts on Hong Kong's surf scene in the next two days, including a chat with Hurley Surf Cup organizer Ken Choi about his pick of Hong Kong's best surfing sites featured tomorrow morning.
