Foodie blogger stuffs face with monster burger at BLT Burgers
Jason: "Hi, actually yes! I would like to have a strawberry milkshakes, a side order of fat fries to share and ummm ... I am struggling between BLT burger with double smoked bacons and Roaring Forties Blue with the blue cheese plus mushroom ...ummm ...."
Waitress: "well, why not do the Roaring Forties with extra bacon topping? You can add a fried egg on top if you like."
Jason: "Ooh ... let's do that then! I mean skip the fried egg, I don't think my heart can handle that much tonight, I will have the Roaring Forties Blue with extra bacon -- double smoked bacon right???"
Waitress: "Yep!"
So here I was with my friend at BLT Burger waiting for our burgers to arrive. The decor looked more like a sports bar than a bistro / diner to me especially with the LCD TVs hanging near the ceiling and the overhead suspended pool table light at one of the long tables. We were assigned to one the two-seater tables which were arranged quite close to each other. If you shared secrets during the meal, I am very sorry, please consider them being overheard!
It was not thick enough, rather watery. Flavors were alright, not overly sweet. The texture would thicken a bit if you mix the whip cream together thoroughly.
A 6oz Grilled CAB Burger, Roaring Forties Blue Cheese, Balsamic Caramelized Onion, Mushrooms.
Remember to wash your hands because there is no other way to enjoy a burger other than to use your hands! Forget about the forks and knifes, use both of your hands!!!
The thick beef patty was juicy and tender but lacked the beef flavors I was looking for. Also, the patty was cooked using a steel plate grill instead of charcoal grill which was used at the BLT Steak downstairs. I was actually looking forward to a charcoal grilled burger but, oh well, I guess those charcoal grills are pretty costly right? You can distinguish the grilling method from the lack of grill marks.
My double smoked bacon were crisp and together with the soft & moist mushrooms and strong blue cheese, the combination was great in terms of texture and flavors. The balsamic caramelized onion was a delightful surprise and the slight sweetness to it balanced the rather rich and strong flavors from the other ingredients. When you are done with the burger, make sure you don't let any cheese on your fingers go to waste, they are "fingerlickin' good!"
I enjoyed the burger here but would I return soon for another one? Perhaps not because:
(1) I have exceeded my cholesterol quota for the month! Not that I am counting but I was pretty sure it maxed out around my third bite, and (2) I think I can get the same satisfaction from other burger joints without crossing the harbor, like Duke's Burger or Shake'em Buns ... but BLT Burgers would be my first pick in the Tsim Sha Tsui area for sure.
Likes: Great combination of flavors from the the strong blue cheese and crispy double smoked bacon. Burger is not complete without bacon in my opinion! Balsamic caramelized onion balanced the flavors with its sweetness.
Dislikes: Milkshakes rather watery the balsamic caramelized onions were not placed evenly on the burger so was not able to taste it in every bite.
Average spending: HK$100-200 per person
