East Asian Games: Is Steven Wong Hong Kong's sexiest sports star?

When Steven Wong took gold at the East Asian Games BMX event over the weekend, sports marketers in Hong Kong collectively wet themselves
East Asian GamesWith a bit of paint and some proper lighting, this guy could sell anyone an IWC.

Steven Wong won the first gold at the East Asian Games over the weekend. Sports marketers are doing cartwheels around town at the prospect of Wong becoming a sporting icon.

The 21-year-old Eurasian may not speak a single word of Cantonese, but his wholesome good looks and devilish grin coupled with killer moves on his dashing bike has endeared him to the local marketing industry.

"Hong Kong previously did not have any young and stylish sports icons. He will be one," said Daniel Chan Yan-nang in the SCMP. Chan is the director of Action House International, a local sports marketing consultant. "Teenagers will see him as an idol."

Ouch. That is just a blatant brush off of other former hot young sporty things who have since moved onto careers in show business:

Nicknamed "Little Flying Fish" Alex Fong is a former Olympic swimmer who held many Hong Kong swimming records before moving on to a successful career in heart-throbbery.

Ken Wong

This former Olympic windsurfer doesn't have Alex Fong's baby-faced charm, but he's got a sort of wholesome hero thing, a la Clark Kent, and plays righteous characters such as policemen and fire-fighters.

Charles Szeto

Whatever happened to this guy? Hailing from a family of well-respected, professional swimmers, Szeto has a slight resemblance to box office king Andy Lau and we have high hopes that he will yet make it to A-list status in the near future.
