Bob Dylan in Hong Kong
Voice of disaffected youth circa 1960s: Bob Dylan, performing during the 37th AFI Life Achievement Award Show in 2009.Bob Dylan will be in Hong Kong on April 8, say newspapers today.
Anti-war icon and singer of the greatest song of all time, Bob Dylan will be in Hong Kong as part of his Asian tour after making rounds in Japan in March. Dylan is slated to perform in Taipei on April 2, Beijing on April 4, Shanghai on April 6 and finally in Hong Kong, according to Taiwanese newspaper The Liberty Times.
Dylan is known for his politically charged songwriting in his earlier years. “The Times They Are A-Changin'” is hailed by critic Michael Gray as the “archetypal protest song,” while anti-war anthem “Blowin’ in the Wind” is still looped at peace demonstrations today.
Bob Dylan in Hong Kong trivia: the phonetic translation of Bob Dylan's name in Mandarin is unintentionally laden with sexual connotations. The first character means "abalone" while the second means "thriving" but also "erect." Yes, it's hardly relevant, but we couldn't resist.
