"The Vivid Pink" poised to break records at Christie's in Hong Kong
"The Vivid Pink" comes from a private collection and was set in a ring by top jeweler Graff.Christie’s fall auction is rapidly gaining momentum with the unveiling of star item “The Vivid Pink”, a 5-carat, bubblegum-pink monster diamond that’s expected to fetch US$5–7 million.
“The Vivid Pink” may look a bit like Hello Kitty reincarnated as a diamond to the untrained eye. But, according to Christie's, the gem ranks amongst the best colored stones to appear on the market in recent years and is the largest "potentially flawless" pink diamond to be auctioned off. Ever.
“While the vast majority of natural pink diamonds exhibit a color modifier like purple, orange or grey, “The Vivid Pink” shows absolutely no trace of a secondary color,” said Christie’s.
The projected sale price makes it a close runner-up to the current pink diamond auction record holder, a 19.66-carat stone that went for US$7.4 million in Geneva 15 years ago.
"The Vivid Pink" will be auctioned off at Christie’s Hong Kong Sale of Extraordinary Jewels on December 1, but before it’s pocketed by some billionaire, the public gets a chance to view it from November 27–December 1 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.
