Americans get satisfaction from Hong Kong tourism

Hong Kong tourism becomes a testing ground for a new industry evaluation structure. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University launched the PolyU Tourist Satisfaction Index yesterday to assess the satisfaction level of inbound tourists to Hong Kong. The school hopes to expand their scope globally in the future.

Based on interviews with 3,000 respondents from a wide range of countries, the index showed that tourists from North America had the highest satisfaction level, followed by Australians and New Zealanders.

Visitors in order of most satisfied to least satisfied:

1. North Americans ( a score of 78.43 out of 100 on the index)
2. Aussies
3. Kiwis
4. Pacific Regioners
5. Euros
6. Africans
7. Middle Easterners
8. Mainland Chinese (74.32/ 100)
9. South East Asians
10. Taiwan and Macau
11. Japan and Korea

The school did not specify what factors were considered in compiling the index. But we're suspecting degree of pleasure derived from air pollution was not taken into consideration.

PolyU's School of Hotel and Tourism Management is ranked no. 2 in the world among hotel and tourism schools based on research and scholarship, according to a study published in the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research in November 2009.
