Sotheby's wine auction could hit HK$40 million
A six-liter bottle of Chateau Petrus 1982 fetched a record HK$726,000 at last October's wine auction in Hong Kong. Sotheby's will hold the year's first auction of fine wines in Hong Kong on January 23 at the Mandarin Oriental.
According to the auction house, the sale will be the most valuable wine collection ever put up by Sotheby's, including 840 lots worth up to $40.8 million. It is the fourth installment of the Classic Cellar from A Great American Collector, which saw record-high bids in Hong Kong in the past spurred on by mainland buyers. According to winebuzz.hk, the three past installments of the collection have amassed a total of US$13,541,845.
The upcoming Sotheby's wine auction will offer Bordeaux Chateaux bottles including 59 lots of Chateau Petrus, 80 lots of Chateau Lafite, 65 lots from Chateau Latour and 78 lots of Chateau Margaux.
