Bruce Lee residence competition won by Hong Kong team
| Results for the Bruce Lee residence restoration competition came out over the weekend. The venue at 41 Cumberland Road in Kowloon Tong was where Lee spent his final days before his death at age 32 in 1973.
For years the venue was rented out by the hour as a love motel. But that’s about to change as the government announced plans to restore the iconic venue. The Ideas Competition for Bruce Lee's Residence drew over 140 entries from around the globe. A Hong Kong team, consisting of Cheung Kwai-yin and landscape architect Jimmy Yuen, won in the professional category of the design contest. The design, titled Journey of the Little Dragon, features a vaulting exhibition hall with an undulating ceiling, and a mirrored room named Tower of Death. Although the government didn't promise to adopt the designs fully, a Tourism Commission spokesman said the entries will “provide very creative ideas and concepts to restore the residence.” The top three designs are on display at Hong Kong City Hall from now until February 4, at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from February 9 to 16, and at Shatin Town Hall from February 23 to March 6. |
