Chrissie Chau's model behavior: Everybody has what it takes to be a Hong Kong model
Chrissie Chau spreads her image across Hong Kong's tabloid pages. In Hong Kong these days there is a trend to become a 'psuedo model.' Chrissie Chau is one of them who has stumbled upon the revolutionary notion that sex sells and she has been raking in profits based on a unique three-step program to fame and fortune:
Step 1: Appear in a controversial slimming ad that involves stripping down to a bikini in the streets of Central.
Step 2: Sell photo albums of yourself in a bikini, posing with ice cream and toothpaste dripping down your face. Sell the photo albums in places people would least expect, such as the nerdy Hong Kong Book Fair. And sell ice cream to your fans, as described in this post.
Step 3: Sell life-sized cushions of yourself, again in a bikini, for HK$600 a pop. Choose another geek-rich event to launch this product, such as the Hong Kong Comic Festival.
Don't have pouty lips and your own "sleep" cushion? All is not lost.
If you're desperate to become a Hong Kong model, this city will figure out a way for you to become one. As blogger Cha Xiu Bao explains, there are many different types of Hong Kong modeling careers, suitable for all kinds of people. For those unfamiliar with a few of the mo ('model') phrases being thrown around these days, here are a few highlights from his hilarious post:
Mo art: a combination of the words 'model' and 'artist,' this term refers to singers and actresses who also model.
Geuk mo: aspirants who have the legs of a pin-up girl but a face for radio become these leg models.
Chiu mo: too ugly to be a model, yet still desperate enough to make the effort.
Yaam mo: too ugly to be a model, too tone deaf to be a singer, but might still have a voice for dubbing foreign language films.
And just so you know before you start dropping your new knowledge in public, in Cantonese 'yaam mo' sounds the same as 'pubic hair,' a terrific joke for pun-loving Hong Kongers.
