Hong Kong Grand Barista Champion stars at new cafe Holly Brown
Holly Brown's crayon-colored cupcakes.
Heralding a new era of quality in the Hong Kong cafe scene, Holly Brown opens on July 9 offering glamorous cupcakes, spot-hitting gelato and cups of coffee made by Hong Kong Grand Barista Champion Tracy Kwok.
Kwok, formerly employed at Epoch Coffee Bar and Desserterie, won the title of Grand Barista Champion last year in Hong Kong's first such competition and went on to represent Hong Kong in the international finals. Since her win, Kwok's coffees have been a much sought-after item at Epoch. We can't wait to see her stretch her espresso-pulling muscles at her new locale.

I was on my way home from a long day when I happened upon Holly Brown's cafe. I was tired and hungry for some good ice cream, so I thought about heading to XTC, but I am glad I found Holly Brown and her gelato. The place has a nice, relaxed feel. The servers were also really friendly and helpful about menu options.
I ordered the 'Florida', which was strawberry gelato with brownies, strawberries, and chocolate sauce in a waffle cup. A small gelato is $44 and all of the toppings are mixed into the gelato on-site. While the gelato wasn't the best I've had (the garish color of some of the gelato made me wonder how much artificial coloring may have been added), it was still pretty good and the dessert menu is delightful. After a long day, it was just what I needed. If I'm close by again, I'll definitely check out the rest of the cafe menu.
