Free abalone and other ridiculously cheap treats at the Hong Kong Food Expo

We're tying on our bibs and running shoes as we gear up for the special bargain zone at this year's Food Expo
Hong Kong Food Expo 2010Abalone overload: Plenty of this Chinese delicacy, for free, at the Hong Kong Food Expo 2010.

Each year, the Food Expo held during summer at the Convention and Exhibition Centre attracts a teeming horde of food-lovers who fight each other for some of the discounted gourmet food items on sale. This year, a special bargain zone will be set up in Hall 3 of the Expo during the evening from 7-10pm. Gourmet foods slashed to rock-bottom prices will be sold there and it's going to a scene of all-out bloody scrummage. The 80 or so vendors in the bargain zone will compete fiercely to attract foodies with low prices and gifts: On Kee Dry Seafood is going to give away 3,000 abalones during the Expo; Tung Fong Hung will sell birds' nest for HK$9.

The Hong Kong Food Expo held annually saw 300,000 visitors last year and provides great exposure for international food brands.
