Tonkichi Tonkatsu Seafood is the city's favorite spot when it comes to tonkatsu, a Japanese dish of pork cutlets that are breaded and deep fried to a golden brown. It's not exactly health food, but judging from the lengthy queues outside during mealtimes, customers aren't complaining.
Deep frying is Tonkichi's forte and they have perfected an addictive tonkatsu: crunchy batter on the outside, impossibly moist and succulent pork on the inside, the bite-sized pieces can be dipped in a tart tonkatsu sauce or in yellow mustard.
Check out Tonkichi's deep fried oysters and prawns as well, the delicate texture of the seafood contrasting well with crackling fried batter. Wash everything down with icy Asahi beer or chilled sake.
