Hong Kong's newest nightspot Hyde breaks the mold

Hyde is the newest club to open on Lyndhurst Terrace. Those who have been are saying that the two-story club and lounge is actually different from what the rest of tired Lan Kwai Fong has to offer.

Yes, we can hardly believe that either.

Hyde’s club, located on the second floor, is flanked by two wall-sized LED screens and a private VIP section accessible only by elevator. Their third-floor lounge has pool tables and outdoor balconies for smokers.

Blogger Hong Kong Hustle checked out the space last week, and from what he had to say on his blog, it appeared that the designers at Hyde had wisely decided not to tamper with what is perhaps Hyde’s biggest strength -- 6,000 square feet of space.

“The lounge has an open feel to it, which is not characteristic of Hong Kong, as tables are often jammed together to maximize revenue,” Hong Kong Hustle noted.

Tables are sparse, and there’s actually enough room on the dance floor for people to dance on.

The styling, a mishmash of metal, concrete, wood and glass fittings, is reminiscent of a New York industrial loft.

“Perhaps to the chagrin of the city’s big spenders, the tables are not as conspicuous as they are in Hong Kong’s high-end nightspots. For example, there isn’t a coveted table next to the D.J. booth,” Hong Kong Hustle also said.

The crowd at Hyde's launch seemed to be older than clubbers at Volar and Dragon-I, mostly working professionals, Hong Kong Hustle noted. Read his full review on his blog.
