Hong Kong's tiniest bars and cafes
Hong Kong is not blessed with an abundance of space, so when it comes to cafés and bars, small is standard.
But what is uncommon is finding a place that makes its diminutive size work to its advantage.
With that in mind, here’s six places whose savvy response to spatial constraints proves the old adage: it’s not the size that matters; it’s how you use it.

1. Homei
Part of a new wave of designer boutiques, galleries and cafés that have opened around Tai Ping Shan Street over the past year, Homei is a friendly café with playful decor that specializes in homebaked treats and pick-me-up drinks.
Bumped elbows: With room for only nine customers, plus another two on the bench out front, Homei really is tiny. But the small size creates an intimacy that is perfectly suited to its quiet, offbeat neighborhood, and there’s no pressure to hurry up and move on.
What to try: The delicious blueberry cheesecake is the product of owner Mei Mak’s quest for the perfect recipe. Also try the the ginger citron tea and ginger hot chocolate, both made with fresh-pressed ginger juice.

2. Café Corridor
One of Hong Kong’s pioneering independent coffee shops, Café Corridor is tucked into a back room across the street from Times Square.
Owner Felix Wong roasts all the coffee himself, attracting a loyal band of office workers, students and in-the-know shoppers.
Bumped elbows: No more than 15 customers can squeeze into the café, but a mirrored wall makes it seem more spacious and it’s also fun to watch the activity behind the counter. Smokers have the run of a small outdoor terrace.
What to try: The milk coffees here are among the best in town, but Corridor makes surprisingly good breakfasts and lunches too, like the savory mushroom-and-egg toast, which is paired with a fresh, simple salad.
