A twin-screen e-book reader? First glimpses cause a scene
Two touchscreens? We like. But the question remains, how long will the battery last on those long flights?Reported by The Times Online, the Asus Eee Reader is set to be the lowest priced e-book reader on the market at around US$160, significantly less than Amazon's Kindle DX or the Sony Reader and will also feature -- count em -- two touchscreens. CNET Asia's blog Crave also reported on the prototype Eee Reader.
According to a Gizmodo post, the device could have, "a second display (which) could be used for a virtual keyboard and Web browsing, allowing the device to even compete with netbooks. The company says it's also thinking about built-in speakers, and a Webcam/microphone for cheap Skype calls."
Asus also suggests a premium version of the Eee Reader is in the works to satisfy tech-heads looking for a bit more oomph in their gadgets. Some serious questions for heavy travelling e-book fans might be: how long will the battery last? How durable is the thing? Can you stuff it in a carry-on and expect it to survive your flight?
Is Amazon all aflutter with nerves at the prospect of some serious competition? We'll have to wait and see. Either way, the more options out there the better.
