Wish you were here -- Sinulog Festival, Cebu

Cebu schools and groups shout "Viva!"as they dance in honor of the Santo Nino

This was probably my tenth trip to Cebu, Philippines. Yet this was my first time to attend the annual festival “Sinulog” I had heard so much about over the years. Schools and groups from Cebu and the surrounding areas prepare for months to perform in honor of the Santo Niño, the Philippines' oldest religious figure. Drums, trumpets, and shouts of “Viva!” drown your ears as the colors and moves of the dances flash before you. I was amazed by this elementary school’s impeccable routine, which they performed tirelessly along the parade route.

Sinulog is held every third Sunday of each January. The main parade in 2010 will be on January 17.
