Oprah Winfrey's 'Oprah's Next Chapter' coming to a country near you
"Great Wall here I come!"Oprah Winfrey will close out The Oprah Winfrey Show on September 9, 2011 and will replace it with Oprah's Next Chapter that fall. The new show will feature Oprah trotting around the world in locations "from the Taj Mahal to the Great Wall." Imagine if you will, Oprah Winfrey sipping tea on the Great Wall of China while interviewing some Chinese luminary on the stresses of living with over a billion people or some other hard hitting and emotional topic.
The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) promised Oprah will continue to have the "riveting conversations with the people we all want to hear from" on Oprah's Next Chapter. To which the Washington Post's Lisa De Morales said in her TV blog, "Imagine Tom Cruise bouncing off the cushions at the Taj Mahal, or Jay Leno doing his mea culpa for having outlasted Conan at NBC from the Great Wall in China."
We doubt the show will feature Oprah in Alex Zimmern or Anthony Bourdain type situations eating exotic creepy crawlies or scoping out local haunts, as she'll have to interview the truly internationally known figures to appeal to her audience.
One thing that is certain, Oprah is one of the world's most influential when it comes to promoting books, products or whatever she damn well chooses. If Oprah likes something, people take notice. Simply by having "Oprah" in the show's title, Oprah's Next Chapter will guarantee an audience in America, but will the rest of the world enjoy her gallivanting around in their own backyards with her own 'O brand' of entertainment?
Guess we'll have to wait until next year to find out.
