Forms, forms, forms -- more United States entry requirements
If you're a Japanese citizen travelling to the United States under the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, you'll need to fill out a new form just to get off the ground.Starting from March 20, 2010 all international travelers participating in the United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP) (from Japan, Singapore, and South Korea for Asia) and heading to the United States will be required to fill out a travel authorization form on the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) website. If they don't they face being restricted from boarding flights to the United States or refused entry on landing.
Those affected are those that are already participating in the VWP program and are therefore allowed to travel to the United States for tourism or business (visitor [B] visa purposes only) for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa," and must fill out the form. Non-ticketed infants are also required to have travel authorization, because we know just how dangerous infants are -- the little rascals.
The ESTA states the authorizations take 72 hours to process, require no fee and are valid for two years unless revoked. For more information visit https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov.
