Indonesia is known for its strict and seemingly haphazard regulations. But this ban on Crocs, spotted in the elevator of Jakarta’s Mall of Indonesia, gets my vigorous nod of approval. Is the offense punishable by stoning? Please?

Now here’s someone who was born with a calling: The English translation of this man’s Javanese name comes out to “Batman bin Suparman” -- or “Batman, son of Superman.” The young Singaporean may not yet be a recognized superhero, but he has a Facebook club with over 2500 fans.

Forget about Godzilla: a giant, cute rubber ducky is terrorizing Japan. The 10 meter tall duck, masterminded by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, menaced the waterways of Osaka last September. What’s next, a battle with the giant Gundam?

Bangladesh’s Shapon Mitra is such a hardcore MacGyver fan that he named his hair salon named after the TV hero. The signature cut is, of course, a tousled mullet.

Tama the cat train conductor

In 2007, Japan’s Wakayama Railway named Tama, a calico cat, stationmaster of Kishi Station. And the public flipped out -- in a good way. The appointment single-handedly revived the railway and local economy. Tama now lives the high life: Free cat food, a personal train and office (with litter box,) designer outfits, photo books and legions of adoring fans.

On the run from the yakuza? Tokyo designer Aya Tsukioka came up with an ingenious camouflage: flip your skirt over your head and the criminals will mistake you for a vending machine.
