Does your mobile screen look like this? Then there's probably something at Social Media Week that will interest you. If you've bothered to click on this article, chances are you've also hit "like," "retweet" or "+1" on something online at least once today.
Social media now plays such a huge role in most people's daily lives, it is being explored in cities around the world as part of Social Media Week (SMW), on from February 13-17.
And if you're a traveling Facebooker/tweeter/plus-oner in any of these cities below, it's a great chance to catch up with the social news.
Now in its fourth year, media pros will gather in Hamburg, Washington DC, Tokyo, Singapore, New York, Miami, London, Paris, Sao Paulo, San Francisco, Toronto and Hong Kong to discuss the latest social media trends. This is the first year DC and Miami will take part.
The event line-up varies from city to city.
In Hong Kong, there will be around 40 panel discussions and activities covering everything from self-promotion, branding and business strategies to the “mommy blogging” trend and a Twitter dating event on Valentine’s Day.
In New York, intriguingly named sessions among the dozens on the line-up include:
- "Does This Tweet Make My Brand Look Fat? New Realities of Social rEtailing"
- "New Technologies, New Democracy: Using Social Media to Change the Way We Do Government"
- "More than 'likes' can say"
- and, perhaps the most appealing of all, the "Social Media Week Party/Beer Pong Tournament."
According to the official SMW website, the annual event attracts more than 60,000 attendees to thousands of individually organized events, with half a million connecting to the conference online and through mobile.
