Celebrities' night out in Ho Chi Minh City
Though only open since January, the chic 2 Lam Son bar at Park Hyatt has quickly become a top spot for people in the know. The nightlife Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as Saigon) has always been a bit up and down. Recently the authorities have lightened up and allowed venues to stay open later, now as late as 2 a.m. instead of midnight. This has allowed the club and bar scene to flourish. Here, three of Ho Chi Minh City’s most stylish celebrities recommend their picks for downtown evening entertainment.
Johnny Tri Nguyen, Actor

Nguyen left Vietnam aged nine, settling in Orange County with his family. He began studying martial arts before that, aged six. “First I learned the family martial art created by my grandfather, then a few years later aikido, kung fu, wushu -- I was a competitor on the U.S. national team. I trained in tae kwon do after I stated doing stunts. When I came back to Vietnam l learned the Vietnam stuff and then later on some muay Thai.”
Nguyen’s successful career as a stuntman has included films like "Spiderman (1 & 2)" and "Jarhead". “My first acting break was a small part in ‘Cradle 2 the Grave’ with Jet Li.” He later received international attention as a villain in Thai film “Tom Yum Goong” (released in the United Statess “The Protector”) with Tony Jaa.
After re-settling in Vietnam in 2005, Nguyen released six films, frequently co-starring with singer-actress Ngo Thanh Van and Dustin Nguyen ("21 Jump Street", "Little Fish"). “The Rebel” (2007), starring all three, is available in the United States on DVD. His latest film “Clash” was featured at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
As it’s located at the far east end of District 1, just outside the backpacker and tourist areas, Lush is a prime spot to hang with the local crowd and spot Ho Chi Minh City's rich and famous as well. Johnny's pick: Lush

“I’m not really much of a partier,” admits Johnny Tri Nguyen, “but whenever friends come to town we’ll often go to Lush.”
Lush is sandwiched between the city’s Japanese district and the riverside botanical gardens. The most cosmopolitan of Ho Chi Minh's dance clubs, the lower-level hip-hop, R&B and house-fueled dance floor is always crowded with an even mix of sharply-dressed young Vietnamese and expats.
