Just because you're on a budget, you don't have to stay in a dump. Lub D is a hostel with class.
Fact: One of the best-designed hostels on the planet is hidden away on a small street off of Silom Road and it is called Lub D.
Lots of orange, stainless steel and poured concrete mean you don’t have to stay in a dump snacking on banana pancakes if you want to save your cash for drinking, dining and shopping.
Concierge my bags please!
Lub D’s communal bathrooms are seriously slick. But if you haven’t carried a backpack in years and the thought of sharing a room makes you want to pack up your designer rolling suitcase and head for a five-star suite, there are singles and doubles, too.
They accept:
Mastercard, Visa, Cash

I must admit, this place wasn’t perfect but then I realized it’s been 10 years since I graduated college and lived in a dorm room. While I am more accustomed to the Ritz/Novotel/W type hotels, Lub D was perfect for anyone’s visit to Bangkok. For around $10, you get to put your luggage in a secure environment, get nicely designed bathrooms and clean shared but private showers, state of the art movie center (seriously they didn’t have to put that in, but what an awesome convenience), stocked food center (overpriced considering local prices, but you are paying for convenience), separate tour center desk with pages and pages of tour options, WIFI and pretty clean/comfortable sleeping dorms. Please keep in mind, if you are coming to Lub D (or Bangkok) to sleep, don’t bother coming at all. The dorm room at Lub D, was as busy as all 3 combined NYC airports on any given day, you were lucky if you got more than 2 hours of uninterrupted sleep. But I couldn’t get made because I paid for what I got, I actually got way more than what I paid for (excluding sleep).

As for location, you can’t beat it. It’s about a 15 minute walk to the Silom heaven. And by heaven I mean, Bangkok’s most diverse/alternative scenes. And I mean alternative in every possible sense, all within walking distance. I never took the train while I was there.

Highly recommend this spot!

Ps. If you run out of money, there are a ton of Money Grams and Western Unions near the Silom train station.

Pss. If you are not running out of money, you are not experiencing Bangkok the way it was meant to be, teehee.
