3 Bangkok airport hotels that make flying more bearable

We'd stay at these places even if Suvarnabhumi International wasn't right next door
Best Western Premier Amaranth SuvarnabhumiDoes this look like a lounge in a family-oriented budget hotel to you? The high-end Best Western Premier Amaranth Suvarnabhumi is part of the chain's new upscale brand.

If you live in Bangkok, getting to the Suvarnabhumi International Airport for an early morning flight is a horrible prospect. Forget waking up at 3am to beat the traffic that clogs expressway entrances and exits for an 8am flight and stay at a Bangkok airport hotel instead.

Because Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport only opened in 2006, the hotels nearby are new, incredibly modern and have top facilities. In fact, we’d stay at these three even if they weren’t right next door to the airport.

1. Best Western Premier Amaranth

The newest hotel to hit the area is the Best Western Premier Amaranth Suvarnabhumi. The hotel, part of the company's new high-end “Premier” brand, just launched late this year and smashes the stereotype that Best Western is simply a low-budget family chain.

The Best Western Premier Amaranth features 278 super chic rooms – including 39 Executive Club Floor rooms. Amenities include LCD flat screen TVs and our favorite – free WiFi! This is refreshing as too many of Bangok’s five-stars are still charging ridiculously high prices to use the internet. There are a few great eateries and lounges, a swimming pool, spa and fitness center and business and conference facilities. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus service to and from Suvarnabhumi, which is 10 kilometers away.

2. Novotel Suvarnabhumi

The Novotel Suvarnabhumi is the most convenient – and expensive - of the airport hotel bunch, located right smack next to the Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Though it's only a 10-minute walk from the terminal there's a 24-hour free shuttle service.

The rooms are incredibly comfortable, the grounds resort-like and there’s all the features you would expect such as flat screen TVs, a swimming pool and spa. There are several dining choices, including Chinese and Japanese, but we actually think their Sala Thai restaurant has one of the best buffet dinners in town.

3. Miracle Hometel Suvarnabhumi

Never mind that we still haven’t figured out what a ‘hometel’ is. The Miracle Hometel Suvarnabhumi is only six kilometers from the airport, offers a shuttle service and has very sweet rooms – including some incredible suites.

Facilities include Chinese and Japanese restaurants, a fitness center and spa, rooftop swimming pool and business and meeting rooms. All the guest rooms and suites have LCD TVs and offer 24-hour room service.
