W Hotels gives Elle Fashion Week Bangkok a boost, supplies the booze

As part of its global fashion initiative, the luxury hotel chain brought its New York VIP lounge to the annual Bangkok fashion event and met with local designers

Earlier this year, W Hotels hired fashion director Amanda Ross to boost its profile within the fashion industry.

Fashion and luxury hotels go together like super models and rock stars, with big names like Versace and Armani now lending their names and talents to luxury digs around the world.

And the trend goes both ways. Last week, luxury hotel brand W Hotels introduced the local Thai design community to its global fashion program Fashion Next by bringing in the first ever W Hotels VIP Lounge to Elle Fashion Week Bangkok, after 13 seasons of hosting a VIP Backstage Lounge at New York Fashion Week.

Over Elle Fashion Week's four days, W Hotels showcased its limited-edition fashion collection created by 34 established and emerging designers for W Hotels The Store (W’s twist on the traditional hotel gift shop) and offered a preview of the design of W Retreat Koh Samui, scheduled to open in November 2010.

W Hotels also introduced Bangkok to international stylist Amanda Ross, the brand’s first global fashion director, and Global Glam, a newly launched fashion and accessories collection created for W by established and emerging designers inspired by the design of W’s latest hotels.

During Elle Fashion Week Ross met with young and upcoming designers in Thailand to explore possible opportunities to work with them on W’s future Global Glam collections.
