Classics like those found at Mae Mai Pleng Thai, can be heard in Bangkok DJ Maft Sai's sets.
MBK's Mae Mai Pleng Thai is rather out of place in a mall known for its high-tech goodies. This music store on the first floor of the mall sells Thai tunes that some might have thought -- or hoped -- had been long forgotten.
Starting from the early 1950s up to the disco tunes of the 1970s and 80s, this collection is vast and covers most of the well-known artists of those times. For a mere 200 baht a CD, shoppers can listen to real Thai music -- very unlike the Korean pop rip offs buzzing on the radios today.
The CDs are made to look like mini vinyls for that extra authentic touch. The cover art alone is priceless, with original images and painted portraits of the artists as they were originally offered on the cover of the vinyls.
