Central World's Jewelry Fair opens with some scintillating items, including a pricey hunk of apple-shaped gold replete with shiny diamonds
The Calinan's 'Happy Golden Apple' is worth over 7 million baht.We've heard of the goose that laid the golden egg, but how about the tree that produces the golden apple? Bangkok's biggest mall, CentralWorld, launched its Precious World of Jewelry Fair 2010 yesterday, just in time to capitalize on the lucrative Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year celebrations, and the pièce de résistance is the Happy Golden Apple, a 1.68-kg diamond-studded piece from Thai jewelery dealer The Calinan.
We wouldn't recommend biting into this particular temptation though. You'll not only ruin an exquisite piece of jewelry (though exactly how you're meant to wear this we're not sure), you'll also ruin your teeth, given that it's made of solid gold.
The gold alone is worth 3 million baht, while the 30 carat Heart & Arrows diamonds on its leaf -- which can be removed and worn -- are worth an additional 4.5 million baht. Not a bad way to say "I love you."
