Slideshow: Bangkok from above
It's difficult to get a sense of just how far Bangkok stretches unless you're viewing the city from above. You could rent a private helicopter, but there's always the city's skyscraping alfresco bars.
One of the highest is Banyan Tree's Moon Bar and Vertigo Restaurant, 61 floors above street level. We found the above slideshow on the blog of photographer Jack Kurtz, who took these amazing shots when he checked out the bar and restaurant last week.
"The view is spectacular and you can certainly wander up to the bar for a quick look and then wander back down to the hotel lobby," says Kurtz. "But it will cost you if you plan to enjoy the sunset. A tonic water set me back about US$5.50. That’s a plain, gin free, tonic water. The same tonic water at the Family Mart convenience store near my apartment is about US$0.40. But then the view from my third floor walk up apartment overlooks a dead end soi."
