Olivia Thirlby gets a lift during the 'Thai Night' event at Siam Niramit.

American actress Olivia Thirlby's face has become more recognizable on big and small screens in the past few years, thanks to notable supporting performances in “Juno” and “The Wackness,” as well as her current role playing Jason Schwartzman’s ex-girlfriend on the new HBO series, “Bored to Death.”

The young Brooklynite is part of an ensemble cast that includes Natalie Portman and Orlando Bloom in the film “New York, I Love You,” which opens Thursday in Bangkok. It’s the Big Apple’s cinematic response to the celluloid homage, “Paris, je t’aime.”

Thirlby recently attended the Bangkok International Film Festival and in the spirit of her new film we asked what five things she loved about Bangkok during her stay.

Thai iced tea

“It is about as sweet as the weekend market [Jatuchak] is hot. Drinking one helped cool me off when I was walking around.”

Mango and sticky rice

“I had this everywhere. Seriously.”

Friendly people

“I made new friends and everyone took such great care of me in Bangkok, from the festival staff to my translator, as well as our hosts and the hotel staff [at the Chatrium Suites]. Everyone was lovely.”

Elephants

“I went to a Thai culture night [the Siam Niramit show] and we learned about the history of elephants in Thailand. I met some elephants and one lifted me up by its trunk!”

Food vendors

“I was constantly hungry from smelling the food carts everywhere, especially in Chinatown and Little India [Pahurat].”

Editor's Note: CNNGo had a chance to meet up with Jim Belushi  and dirctor Danny Leiner during last month's film festival. Follow the links for a look at their Bangkok experiences.
