How to spoil mom this Thai Mother's Day

They wiped our bums, kissed our scraped knees and told us we were the prettiest girls in the world when that dude in high school took us to his car for a make-out session only to dump us the next day for a prettier version. Ok, maybe that last one just happened to me.

In any event, August 12 is Mother’s Day in Thailand, which means it’s time to show mommy the love. Here are a few ways I’d like my kids to spoil me. Hint, hint. 

Say it with flowers. Lots and lots of flowers

These days, there’s no excuse for not having time to give your special lady some flowers. If you're looking to do things the old-fashioned way, order a high quality jasmine garland –- the traditional way to show mom some respect in Thailand -- online and get it delivered straight to her door or office. If you want to eat a fancy meal on Mother’s Day, you need to call ahead as the best restaurants book up fast. So pick up the phone. Now.

There are dozens of Mother's Day brunches and dinners happening all over the city, some moderate some over the top. Crustacean lovers will want to hit the Mother's Day special at Bangkok's Seafood Bar, which famed oyster king Billy Marinelli opened earlier this year.

Make a reservation and mom gets 12 free freshly shucked oysters. I've got my eye on the Alaskan crab platter (1,800 baht), which includes 200 grams of king crab, a snow crab cluster and a Dungeness crab half. Tempting. As an added treat, there are bottles of Schramsberg Champagne for 2,000 baht and 200 baht cocktails.

Day at the spa

Pick up a spa gift certificate for mom so she can be the one getting spoiled for a change.
