A Thai firm's watery vision for Bangkok in response to rising sea levels will soon go on display in Berlin
9 August, 2011With Bangkok warned to brace for rising water levels on the Chao Phraya River as floods continue to batter northern Thailand, the vision of Thai architecture firm S+PBA couldn’t be more timely.
Called “A Post Diluvian Future,” the above series of futuristic designs were created in response to a recent United Nations study that predicted much of Bangkok will have to be abandoned by the middle of the century due to rising sea levels.
"With the city sinking 10 centimeters below a sea level that is rising by 40 centimeters annually, the safest place to create new architecture is above water," says the firm.
"A Post Diluvian Future" will go on display in Berlin's AEDES Gallery from September 9 to October 21 as part of an exhibition called "Water: Curse or Blessing!?"
