Sometimes, it takes a student to teach us something new about our surroundings. In this case its Chulalongkorn University’s just-launched English-language news portal, Chulapost.

Featuring over 40 stories by 30 writers, Chulapost is filled with refreshing new insights into Bangkok’s people and places. Students enrolled in the university’s Faculty of Communication Arts program produced all of the site’s content as part of their class assignments, under the direction of their professor, Joel Gershon. These include audio-visual reports, photo galleries and written articles on some of the city’s most famous neighborhoods, as well as interviews with interesting Bangkokians.

The “Bangkok Belt” section has features on Charoenkrung Road, Koh Kred, and super trendy Thonglor. Among our favorites is the section on RCA with videos that look at the famous nightlife zone before and after dark, complimented by a photo gallery and articles on RCA's legendary indie cinema House and 'ladies' only' nightclub Zeta.

The profiles are divided into two sections and include some very notable characters, as the students have interviewed everyone from a royal pianist and a somtom vendor to a tsunami survivor and an animal trainer with his very own ‘modeling’ agency.

We can't wait to see what they uncover next.
