'Au Coeur du Festival' is a 100-minute documentary that takes a look at what goes on behind the scenes at Cannes.
Bangkok’s Alliance Française is warming us up for next month’s Cannes Film Festival by screening six festival favorites from years past.

The weekly screenings start tonight with “Au Coeur du Festival,”  an anthology of the greatest moments at Cannes by festival president Gilles Jacob.

Next week it will be Jean-Paul Rappeneau's "Cyrano de Bergerac," a drama that snagged GĂ©rard Depardieu the Best Actor prize in 1990. On May 4, Alliance is screening Bruno Dumont's 2006 Grand Prix du Jury winner "Flandres."

May 11 is Maurice Pialat's 1991 film "Van Gogh,"  followed by 2004 drama "Clean" on May 18, which stars Maggie Cheung. Patrice Leconte's 1996 comedy "Ridicule" closes out the six film Alliance Française series

The screenings -- all with English subtitles -- take place every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Alliance Francaise on Sathorn Tai Road.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival runs from May 11-22, with Robert De Niro heading its Feature Films Jury.

At last year’s Cannes Film Festival, Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul won the top prize, the Palme d'Or, for his "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives." For a look at 12 other Thai films that made an impression at Cannes over the years, click here
