Calling all geeks! Two days of nerd-tastic idea sharing at BarCamp Bangkok 4

Thailand's best and brightest techies will gather this weekend for the Bangkok edition of this global participatory event
Barcamp BangkokBarCamp is an international network of user-generated conferences featuring content provided by participants.

The fourth installment of Barcamp Bangkok, Thailand’s unapologetically "geekiest event of the year," hits the city's Sripatum University tomorrow morning, October 23.

Part of the global network of of user-generated conferences, BarCamp Bangkok offers two days of open, participatory workshop events. This means that all the content is provided by the people attending.

“There is no audience, only participants,” says the BarCamp Bangkok website. “Attendees should prepare a demo, a session, or help with one, or otherwise volunteer/contribute in some way to support the event. All presentations are scheduled the day they happen. The people present at the event will select the demos or presentations they want to see.”

A quick look at the guest list shows that popular topics to be discussed include mobile web development, Drupal, Android and social media.

John Berns is one of the organizers of BarCamp Bangkok. In an interview with social media blogger Jon Russell he offers a preview of this year's event, while easing fears that you have to be fluent in programming languages to get anything out of it.

“BarCamp originated in the tech community so there are a lot of technical topics but barcamp is open to anybody with an idea or knowledge to share,” says Berns. “Some topics are very technical and esoteric, others are technical and made for people who want to get an introduction or overview to a tech topic. Many are not even technical at all, they might be about marketing, business startups, art, social change, whatever you are passionate about.”

Giants in the world's tech sector have long recognized that the world's BarCamp events are a magnet for the best and brightest in the industry. BarCamp Bangkok 4 has snagged sponsors such as the Yahoo! Developer Network, Google, IBM Developer Networks, Dell and Mozilla Foundation, some of which are sending employees to talk on subjects like software and mobile app development.

Those interested in attending should register fast. BarCamp Bangkok 4 only has room for 1,200 attendees and Berns announced this morning on Twitter that they’d reached the 1,000 mark overnight.  Click here to register.
