Last chance to enjoy Bangkok's Joe Louis Puppet Show

Before the curtain comes down on Bangkok's Joe Louis Puppet Show the Natayasala Theatre is giving a final free showing
Joe Louis Puppet Show

Bangkok's Joe Louis Puppet Theater, also known as “Nattayasala Hun Lakorn Lek,” is one of Bangkok's top but most underrated attractions. It was founded by the late master of puppets Sakorn Yangkhieosod in 2002, whose English name was Joe Louis, and showcases the remarkable Thai traditional art of puppetry.

Unnfortunately this is the final week visitors will be able to check out the legendary troupe in its 400-seat Natayasala Theatre at the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, as the last performance is set for Sunday, August 29, at 8 p.m. Admission is free, so get there early.

According to media reports, the puppet troupe has to leave as its rental contract with the property owners has expired. No word yet on whether they’re planning to reopen the show in another Bangkok location.

A few months ago CNNGo went behind the scenes at the Joe Louis Puppet Show to offer our readers an insider’s look at this unique slice of Thai culture. Little did we know then, the photos would become a memorial to this well-loved city attraction.

The Joe Louis Puppet Theater is located in the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, at the corner of Wireless and Rama IV Roads, across from the white water tower. Tickets are available for 900 baht and are sold from 6 p.m. onwards, though the final night is free. For more info, call +66 (0)2 252 9683. The show lasts from 8 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
