Thai bride story gives us our cringe-worthy quote of the day

Anyone who’s lived in Thailand long enough will know all about the trend of older foreign men coming here to marry young Thai women. It’s been going on for years. Not news.

So normally we wouldn’t even bother to mention yet another feature about how many of these men are moving to the northeast to settle with their brides, as opposed to the usual Bangkok or Pattaya. This too has been widely reported.

But this quote was too good not to share: "It doesn't matter whether you're fat, you're ugly, you've got spew hanging out of your mouth or whatever else, there's some lady here who will want to take care of you."

That verbal gem came from an Aussie man living in Udon Thani, “laughing over a beer with his pregnant Thai fiancée -- who at 21 is half his age,” reports the AFP.

We’re not here to comment on whether this scene is right or wrong. To each his own. But really, spew? Come on buddy. At least try to make us believe there’s some romance involved in the situation.
