'I meant to show my six pack -- not my private parts'
Worapoj Petchkoom says he's been offered work in other gay magazines since appearing in the August edition of Stage.Olympic silver medal boxer Worapoj Petchkoom’s sexy spread in a local gay magazine has captured the imagination of the global gay and lesbian blogger community since news of the scandal broke last week.
The boxer, who hopes to compete in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, says he didn’t know the magazine -- Stage -- was a gay publication. Now the country’s boxing federation is figuring out what to do with him as boxers are supposed to get approval before modeling for any publication. Which he didn’t do.
Local blogger Bangkok of the Mind was one of the first to discuss the scandal after Worapoj made the decision to go on a Thai talk show to discuss his embarrassing blunder.
In his defense, Worapoj says he was tricked and agreed to the shoot after the magazine invited him to do the cover to mark its third anniversary, thinking it was just an ordinary fashion job.
“On the first day I started to have my doubts, when they brought out a pair of underwear for me to wear,” he said. “Since the magazine appeared, another two gay titles have offered me work, but I turned them down. I meant to show my six pack – not my private parts.”
