Fake Ferraris and pretend Porsches from a Thai dealer near you

News of a Bangkok man’s ability to whip up a mean looking super car replica spreads around the world

Super cars Bangkok Chris Pongpitaya, manufacturer of replica cars, stands next to fake Porsches and a Ferrari at his garage in Bangkok last month.

So this explains why the VIP parking lot at Siam Paragon is suspiciously full of shiny Ferraris on any given day of the week. Half of them are fakes! Ok, admittedly we’re not automobile connoisseurs and honestly couldn’t tell the difference between a fake Testarossa and a real one. But this guy could.

Word of 44-year-old Thai carmaker Chris Pongpitaya’s ability to build authentic looking copies of super cars is spreading around the world thanks to a few recent news reports. The latest comes from Singapore website Asia One, which draws very heavily from an in-depth 2008 feature by the Bangkok Post, and follows a recent video report by the AFP. The guy's name is everywhere these days, and in multiple languages.

In the reports, Chris says his company, Schones, has no shortage of orders from home and abroad, with most requesting clones of expensive sports cars such as Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches and Aston Martins. Their prices start from 400,000 baht.

My neighbor is always pulling up with a Ferrari or a Porsche. He must work there.
