Pro-government protesters throw bottles and fire sling-shots as things turn ugly on Bangkok's Silom Road Thursday morning
22 April, 2010Angry pro-government supporters clashed with protesting red shirts near Silom Road in central Bangkok early Thursday morning. According to the Nation, a daily English-language newspaper, the two sides faced off at the Saladaeng intersection near Dusit Thani Hotel, where they initially attacked each other verbally through loudspeakers before the situation escalated. For images of the brief scuffle, view the above photo gallery.
Meanwhile, red shirt protests continue at Rajaprasong, with hotels in the area this week opting to close their doors temporarily due to a massive drop in occupancy. Most of the upscale shopping malls near Rajaprasong remain closed as well, though Central Chidlom reportedly opened its doors on Thursday. The rest of the city, however, is carrying on with life as usual.
