Bangkok cleans house for the Year of the Tiger
Expect to see a lot of red in the coming days, and not because ousted PM Thaksin Shinawatra is experiencing a surge in followers. Yesterday marked the beginning of ceremonies to prepare for the 2010 Chinese New Year. Thai-Chinese families around Bangkok traditionally spend February 7 doing a bit of house cleaning.
While these rituals are common knowledge to the city’s thousands of Thai-Chinese, the rest of us are generally clueless. The Bangkok Post offers insights courtesy of a feng shui expert, including a decent in-depth guide to the various ceremonies and traditions that will take place this week.
This year Chinese New Year falls on February 14, which is, of course, Valentine’s Day.
