Want to guarantee the sex of your unborn child? Come to Bangkok
By separating the male and female embryos, scientists can ensure whether a woman who undergoes IVF will give birth to a boy or a girl.Good news for those who want to decide for themselves whether to decorate the nursery pink or blue. We've just learned Bangkok has a clinic that will make sure nothing is left to chance.
According to media reports, an Australian woman is planning to come here for her in vitro fertilization (IVF) so that she can ensure her unborn child will be a girl. ABC News says that the woman, known as Olivia, needs to have the treatment here in Bangkok to circumvent Australian guidelines, which prevent families from determing the sex of IVF babies.
Olivia already has three sons and apparently can’t bear the thought of having another. "It's just something deep in me that I can't shake. I just feel this really strong wish to have a daughter to raise with my sons in a balanced family," she was quoted as saying by ABC.
We won't get into the technical aspects of the procedure, but basically the way it works is that the male and female embryos are separated so that only female embryos are implanted. The procedure will cost Olivia an estimated AS$15,000 (427,000 baht), reports Perthnow.com, and will be carried out at Bangkok’s Superior A.R.T. fertility clinic.
