Gallery: Lady Boys of Bangkok provide 'Fantasy and Feathers' in the United Kingdom

Ladyboys -- or katoeys as they’re known here -- are a common sight all over anything-goes Thailand, whether they're performing on stage as part of a beauty pageant, singing in a cabaret or styling hair in a salon. And now they’re becoming a more familiar sight in the United Kingdom. Well, 16 of them are anyway. 

Made up of former Bangkokians, “The Lady Boys of Bangkok” group has been touring the United Kingdom for the last 13 years, and according to reports there, their shows are now more popular than ever.

The group made its seventh appearance at this week’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with the crowds turning out in full force to witness these gorgeous ladies dance in their elaborate and often risqué costumes while lip-syncing hits from Lady Gaga to Michael Jackson. There's even a tribute to Scotland. Check out some highlights of their performance as well as behind-the-scenes snaps in the gallery below.

The festival favorites returned to Edinburgh as part of their nationwide Fantasy and Feathers Tour, performing their cabaret to packed houses. This tour includes hits from Cheryl Cole, Lady GaGa and The Proclaimers.

The Lady Boys of Bangkok were all born males, but some just dress as women while others undergo procedures such as hormone replacement therapy, breast implants or complete gender reassignment surgery.

The 2010 production of the Lady Boys of Bangkok show is called "Fantasy and Feathers." The tour includes stops in in Derby, Brighton, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Leeds and Belfast.

The Lady Boys, wearing kilts featuring their own registered tartan, also perform to Scottish songs such as 500 miles and Auld Lang Syne.

Though some of the acts might look as though they're for adults only, the show is open to anyone 12 years old or above.

The Lady Boys of Bangkok's website bills them as an honorable part of the rich cultural heritage of Thailand, "people of a highly artistic and creative nature who believe that they have the right to define their own sexuality."
