PETA calls Bangkok out on its carnal canines
PETA is hoping to raise awareness over the millions of stray dogs on the streets of Thailand, saying that spaying one dog or cat can prevent countless births and the spread of disease.The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has taken aim at Thailand’s inability to keep its oversexed dog population in check. A condom-clad member of the global animal rights group headed to Democracy Monument yesterday to urge locals to sterilize their dogs by holding a sign pointing out that, unfortunately, dogs don’t have the ability to practice safe sex like the rest of us.
Anyone who’s been chased down a back street of Bangkok by a pack of angry stray dogs can relate to PETA’s concerns. Right up there with animal euthanasia, dog owners here just don’t seem to want to shell out the baht to get their animals fixed. When the inevitable litters of puppies come along, many dog owners dump them off at local temples or other public places, leaving them to fend for themselves.
What did surprise us is that PETA didn’t print the protest sign in Thai, which may have left many locals assuming the guy was actually advertising a new brand of condoms.
